The present tense in English grammar

There are three types of present tense-(the present simple, present continuous, present perfect continuous tense).
The different types of present tense are used to describe an action that is happening in the present.

There are 4 types of present tenses-

  1. The simple present tense
  2. The present continuous tense
  3. The present perfect tense
  4.  The present perfect continuous tense
    1)The simple present tense-
    • The simple present tense describes an action that is happening in the present.
    • The simple present tense is also used to describe a habit, preference,thought,belief and a routine. It’s also used to state a universal fact.For example-He goes to the library everyday. The earth is round. This restaurant serves unhealthy food.

Formation of the present simple tense= Pronoun(I/he/she/they)+ main form of the verb

2)The present continuous tense-

The present continuous tense is used to describe an action that is being continued in the present. For example- The baby is crying.
Formation of the present continuous tense.
Subject( I) + am + main form of the verb(feel) +ing

3)The present perfect tense-

It’s used to describe an action that was carried out in the past. However, this action is still being carried out in the present.
For example. i have lived in France all my life.
Formation of the present continuous tense- Pronoun(I/he/she/they)have + main form of the verb +ed

4)The present perfect continuous tense-

It describes an action that had started in the past but still continues in the present. For example, we have been cleaning the kitchen since 6 am.

Formation of the present continuous tense – Pronoun(I/he/she/they) + Have +  Been + main verb +ing. ( For example they have been doing)
